New Travel Document Requirements for Entering US
On June 1, 2009, the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) will go into effect at land and sea ports of entry, requiring travelers - including U.S. and Canadian citizens - to present government approved travel documents to enter the U.S. Specifically, the WHTI will require all travelers to and from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda who have been exempt from passport requirements, to present a passport or approved travel document, in order to enter the U.S. The WHTI is intended to strengthen border security.
